An end of an era in Calgary sports history is about to begin.
The Calgary Flames open the 2026–27 campaign in a home game against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday, Oct. 1, marking the start of the club’s final season at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Flames have called the dome home since it opened in 1983 and has been home to more than four decades of hockey, including Calgary’s 1989 Stanley Cup championship and the team’s memorable 2004 playoff run.
The Flames are branding 2026–27 as “The ’Dome Farewell Season,” with celebrations planned throughout the year to recognize the teams, players and moments that have defined the arena’s history.
Following season end, the Flames are expected to leave the Saddledome and move across the street to Scotia Place, which is on-schedule to open for the 2027–28 NHL season.
The new arena will seat roughly 18,400 for hockey and is part of our cities' commitment to larger Culture + Entertainment District development.
For Calgary hockey fans, Oct. 1 begins one last season under the Saddledome’s unmistakable roof.
